Answers to Common Artwork Questions

1. All I have is a sample of a label. What do I do?

International Label Mfg. LLC’s Art Department will recreate your label from the sample. If there are changes or improvements to be made, make a photocopy of the sample label and show the changes on the photocopy. Any logos or photos that you can supply on disk or email us will lessen the time it will take to recreate the label.

2. I have a label style in mind for a new label, but no artwork. Can you help?

Our Art Department can produce the artwork you are desiring.
• Provide us with as much information as you can.
• Send a sketch of what you want the label to look like.
• Indicate what colors you prefer.
• Detail what text you need on the label.

3. I have the label set up in Word. Is this okay?

We can use the text only from a word document. We will still need to see a printout of how the label should be set up so we can recreate it.

4. What is the Pantone Matching System?

The Pantone Matching System (PMS) is a color reproduction standard in which colors all across the spectrum are each identified by a unique, independent number. The use of PMS colors allow us to precisely match colors and maintain color consistency throughout the printing process.

5. Why do the printed colors look different from the colors on my screen?

Monitors use the RGB (red, green, blue) color model, which usually supports a wider spectrum of colors. Printers use the CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, black) color model, which can reproduce most—but not all—of the colors on your computer screen. Depending on the equipment used, CMYK generally matches 85–90% of the colors in the RGB.

6. Is white considered a printing color?

Not typically. Because white is the default color of paper, it is simply recognized as the absence of any ink. However, when using colored paper, white ink may be used if any text or graphic requires it.

7. What file format should I use when submitting my electronic document for printing?

PDF (Portable Document Format) is the most common and preferred file format for submitting digital documents. If you are not abel to save your file as a PDF, please contact us to see if your file is saved in a format we can use.
